Discovering Your Interior Design Style:

Finding Comfort and Expression

As an interior designer, mum of two energetic boys, a fur mum to our rescued dog, and a devoted wife, I understand the importance of creating a space that not only looks beautiful but also feels like home. Over the years, I've come to realise that our interior design style is not just about following trends or mimicking magazine spreads; it's about expressing ourselves and finding comfort in our surroundings.

Many of my clients come to me unsure of their design style, feeling overwhelmed by the multitude of options and trends out there. They often ask, if they really need to put a name on their style.

The short answer? No, you don't. But understanding your interior design style can make the process of creating a home that reflects your personality and meets your needs much easier and more enjoyable.

So, how do you go about discovering your interior design style?

1. Reflect on Your Lifestyle:

Start by reflecting on how you and your family live in your home. Are you a busy family constantly on the go, or do you prefer quiet evenings spent at home? Understanding your lifestyle will help guide your design choices.

2. Gather Inspiration:

Take some time to gather inspiration from various sources such as magasines, Pinterest, or even nature walks. Pay attention to the colours, patterns, and textures that catch your eye and resonate with you.

3. Identify Key Elements:

Look around your home and identify any existing pieces of furniture or decor that you love and want to incorporate into your design. These items can serve as a foundation for your style.

4. Consider Your Personal Taste:

Think about your personal taste in fashion, art, and other aspects of your life. Are you drawn to clean lines and minimalist aesthetics, or do you prefer cozy spaces filled with layers of textures and patterns?

5. Experiment and Adapt:

Don't be afraid to experiment with different styles and elements to see what works best for you. Interior design is a journey, and your style may evolve over time as your tastes and needs change.

Now, back to the question of whether it's important to add a label to your style.

While labels can be helpful in communicating your vision to others, they're not essential. What matters most is creating a space that feels authentic to you and your family.

As an interior designer, my goal is to help my clients discover their unique style and bring it to life in their homes. Whether you're a busy mum like me juggling work and family responsibilities or a pet parent looking to create a pet-friendly space, I'm here to support you every step of the way.

Together, we can create a home that not only reflects your personal style but also provides a sanctuary where you can unwind, recharge, and make lasting memories with your loved ones. So, let's embark on this journey of self-discovery and design together. Your dream home awaits!
